Soon thousands of Scotch Broom shrubs will be ablaze with eye-catching yellow flowers all over Clallam County.

We’re looking for a winning image of this beautifully flowered invader of highways, fields, and roads. Your entry could feature a field of Scotch Broom - or one spectacular plant.

Washington state recognized noxious weeds to be a threat to the state’s agriculture as far back as the 1880s. A hundred years later, that concern expanded to our native plants, habitat, and ecosystems.

Your contest participation will create awareness to the extensive loss of habitat for our beneficial native plants and the wildlife - on land and in water - that depend on natural habitat. Since this wildlife unfriendly weed is everywhere, you will have plenty of opportunities to find a prize-winning specimen. Submissions including both 'Before' and 'After' photos are encouraged and may be awarded extra points...

Contest Rules

Participants may submit up to three entries to NoxiousWeedControl@co.clallam.wa.us to qualify. Please put "Show Us Your Weeds Scotch Broom Photography Contest 2016" in the subject line and include the approximate location of where the photo was taken*. Along with your entry, include your contact information (email address, phone number, and/or mailing address).

By submitting a photo to the contest, entrants consent and agree that the Clallam County Noxious Weed Control Board, its employees or agents have the right to use any photographs that submitted to them for educational and promotional materials.

Prize winners will be required to sign the Weed Board Photo Release form.

*Note: Exact locations of entries found on private property will not be published. Winning entries will not be judged on location.

Winners will be announced in July. First, Second, and Third place prizes will be awarded.
