Subject: P-hab decisions
Dear
Streamkeeper volunteers and advisors,
After
some excellent feedback from many of you, we've decided what we're doing about
Physical Habitat monitoring for the time being:
1. P-hab monitoring
will be optional for each team this August.
It'll be up to your team to decide whether you want to do
it. Also, your choice doesn't have to be
all-or-nothing: you can choose to do the
P-hab suite at only one site, or to do only certain P-hab protocols--mix and
match as you like. Please let us know
what you plan to do!
2. Please, however, perform
the Bank Stability assessment that we introduced last year--that's
the super-fast one where you rate bank stability from 1-4.
3. Training in P-hab
protocols will also be optional this year, and offered on a separate
day: July 18, from 10 till about 4. We'll meet at the Streamkeeper office.
4. To "close out" our analysis of
P-hab data using our current set of protocols, we
need one more round of cross-section measurements to be taken at selected sites
this year. Those sites are:
Jimmycomelately
0.6 & 0.8
Siebert
3.0 & 3.8
Bagley
4.6
Morse 1.1
& 2.0
Lees 0.1
Peabody
0.2, 1.0, and 1.4
Valley
0.7 & 2.2
Salt 6.4
Bear SF
0.2
Lake Trib
@LB 6.2
Elk 1.9
& 2.9
5. In the coming
months, we'll be researching and communicating about whether & how to
measure P-hab in future years. We
hope to have the new system in place by next summer, whatever it may be. Feel free to offer input on this topic, if
you haven't already; let us know if you need a copy of the original memo on
this topic.
Thanks, E&H
