Calibration Procedure: Air Temperature Thermometer

This procedure can be done at the same time that the YSI-85 multimeters are tested

Equipment Needed:

·         “Maintenance & Calibration” binder with calibration log

·         Air thermometers

·         YSI-85 multimeters

·         Procedure (this sheet)

·         Pencil

·         Room temperature water

Maintenance & Calibration Notebook

Record all calibration and maintenance activity in the “Streamkeepers Maintenance & Calibration” binder kept in the Streamkeepers office.

Calibration Procedure

1)      Fill dishpan with water and allow it to stabilize to room temperature (overnight is best).

2)      Warm up YSI-85 multimeters for 15 minutes.

3)      Place YSI-85 probes into the dishpan, along with the thermometers.

4)      Wait for the water temperature readings on the YSI-85’s to stabilize, stirring the water occasionally.

5)      Record the average water temperature reading on the YSI-85’s in the calibration log to the nearest 0.1°C.

6)      Immediately record the results on the air temperature thermometers in the calibration log to the nearest whole degree C.  Try to read the thermometers with the tips still under water.

7)      Any thermometers not within one-degree C of the average YSI-85 reading should be discarded and replaced.
