OPERATION & MAINTENANCE PROGRAM

The Onsite Operation & Maintenance program is a State mandated program to make sure that septic systems are being used and maintained in a way that is safe for public health.  Clallam County works with local on-site professionals on two main elements of the program:

Education
The Environmental Health Division has created a homeowners' guide to septic systems,
Take Care of Your Septic.  This guide explains how septic systems work, and gives useful tips for taking care of them.  Printed copies are available from Environmental Health, and the guide will be online soon.  Please contact Environmental Health if you would like to request a copy.  The division also offers FREE Septics 101 classes for people who have septic systems, and anyone else who is interested in learning about them.

O&M Agreements
Operation and Maintenance agreements are required as part of the permit process for some of the more complex types of septic systems.  The system owner and an approved O&M professional, certify that the system will be inspected and maintained.  The O&M specialist agrees to provide regular inspections and maintenance recommendations.  The owner agrees to maintain the system properly and follow the specialist's recommendations.
