Solid Waste Advisory Committee


Purpose: Assists in the implementation of programs and policies concerning solid waste handling and disposal, and reviews and comments on proposed changes to the Comprehensive Solid Waste Management Plan.

Membership: Comprised of nine representatives; one from each of the incorporated cities, the waste industry, tribal councils, Clallam County, state and federal agencies, private industry, and one at-large. Waste industry representatives serve one-year rotating terms.

Clallam County and SWAC are in the process of updating the Comprehensive Solid Waste Management Plan (CSWMP). The final draft has been prepared in response to Ecology’s preliminary review comments and is available at the link below.  The final draft will be presented to city councils and the BOCC prior to their consideration of a Resolution for Adoption of the CSWMP required for submission of the final draft to Ecology.  It will also be presented to the Utility Advisory Commission and tribal councils.  For questions or comments please contact Meggan Uecker, Update Coordinator, 360-809-3305, .

Progress on the CSWMP update and other important solid waste topics are discussed at regular SWAC meetings. SWAC meets the third Thursday of every other month at 3 pm in the Commissioner's Meeting Room at the Clallam County Courthouse. These meetings are open to the public. 2014 meetings are scheduled for March 20th, May 15th, July 17th, September 18th, and November 20th.
