The detention facility is a secured facility. Juveniles that are admitted are court ordered into our facility or meet our intake screening criteria.
Our major responsibilities are to provide a safe and secure facility for youths held in custody; providing services such as food, clothing, medical care, educational opportunities, recreation opportunity, religious opportunities and necessary resources for other specific needs.
The control center is manned twenty-four hours a day. The officer in the control center is responsible for the surveillance and operation of all controls, including all movement between rooms/hallways, and any communications. The following pictures depict the area of the intake hallways and the control room.
Orientation: Once a youth is admitted into our facility, they go through an orientation procedure to familiarize them with our facility and what is expected of them. We currently operate a level system which ties expectation with behavior. Youth move up or down the level system based on their attitude, behavior, cooperation and interaction with staff and other detained youths. Higher levels allow the youths more time out of their rooms in the later afternoon, evenings and weekends and supervised work and/or school release.
Medical: A contract with Peninsula Children's Clinic for medical consultation, medical screening, complete physical and medical service is utilized to provide for all medical needs.
School: The school program is available to all youths and operates five days a week. Periods 1-5 in the morning cover the academics. Afternoon classes involve areas and crafts/drug and alcohol/anger management and health. Our school program achieves one of the highest rate of completion for those qualified to take the GED.
Counseling: Contracts with local agencies provides individual assessment and group counseling three days a week. A volunteer coordinates AA/NA evening group sessions, which is comprised of many volunteers. Another volunteer coordinates, organizes and schedules the non-denominational ministry program. The coordinator is an active volunteer counselor as well.
