Health & Human Services - A Partner in Injury Prevention
More children under age 14 are killed by what people call "accidents" (motor vehicle crashes, fires and other injuries) than by any other cause. The National SAFE KIDS Campaign, an organization dedicated solely to the prevention of unintentional injuries in children, believes there are no such things as "accidents". Unintentional injuries can be prevented.
The Department of Health & Human Services has joined with other community agencies including hospitals, medical and health professionals, law enforcement, firefighters, educators, businesses, and many others to establish a local coalition -- Peninsula SAFE KIDS Coalition. Its main goal is to prevent childhood injuries and save lives. The Coalition serves both Clallam and Jefferson Counties and has been very active in coordinating activities such as car seat safety clinics, fire safety education in schools, bicycle and scooter safety education, etc.
If you are interested in joining the Peninsula SAFE KIDS Coalition, contact Trooper Dave Sue at the Washington State Patrol (360-417-1738). |
