 Draft On-site Code
Clallam County's Onsite Program protects public health by making sure that septic systems work properly.  It is important that sewage does not leak onto the ground or into groundwater sources.  We make sure that septic systems are designed, installed, and maintained in ways that meet State and local standards.

It is called the Onsite Program because septic systems generally treat and dispose of sewage on the site where it is created.  The main elements of the program are:

Information and Education
One of our main goals is to provide information for homeowners about how to keep their septic systems working properly.  We do this through our
Operation & Maintenance (O&M) program, and by offering Septics 101 classes and other educational materials.  We also have ´as-built´ information about many of the septic systems that have been installed in Clallam County.

Site Evaluations and Permitting Process
The largest part of our onsite program deals with the
septic permit process.  This includes evaluating the soils at a site, reviewing and approving permit applications, and checking the installation of systems.  We work closely with local onsite professionals on individual, commercial, and community systems.

Investigating Septic Complaints
The Environmental Health Division also responds to complaints about septic systems and leaking sewage.  Please
